Course Description

Based on the best-selling book of the same name, Practical Reading Strategies explores six research-based strategies for engaging students in reading and improving their reading skills:

  • Making Connections
  • Visualising
  • Questioning
  • Inferring
  • Summarising
  • Synthesising

The book was developed as a result of a Department of Education and Training funded Community of Practice which studied what happens 'behind the eyes' of good readers.

This course includes a detailed discussion of all six strategies plus examples of classroom activities which are suitable in any subject area where students are required to read.
