Course Description

Claire created the Floorbook Approach to give the practitioner tools to truly consult with children during the planning and documentation process. The approach encourages higher-order thinking skills and helps children influence their learning.

NESA accredited

The Floorbook Approach is an innovative child-led approach to observation, documentation and planning which is now implemented in settings around the world. By listening to children and identifying their interests we can create a unique learning opportunity that excites and interests children.

Floorbooks are blank books where we can record children's voices and their ideas to use in our planning. Group writing in a Floorbook allows shared thinking as children recall each other's ideas and record them through writing, diagrams and photographs. This child-centred approach records the evidence of the process of play and the learning that comes from it.

Talking Tubs stimulate children's senses, encourage talking and thinking and really engage children in their learning. They allow you to use 3D objects and 2D images to help children investigate a topic. This technique creates ideas to use as stepping stones for further play and learning.

'Inquiry-based Learning with the Floorbook Approach’ is aimed at all professionals working within Early Years Childcare and Education who want to reflect on and grow their own practice. This course starts at an introductory level and therefore no pre-requisite learning is required.
