This course will investigate Compositional processes and recording techniques using Garageband and Logic Pro.

Sessions

Basic Recording Principles

1 hour

The Digital Recording environment has enabled high-level recordings to be achieved at a fraction of the cost compared to earlier years. However, there are a number of traps to avoid. Further, understanding the principles underlying the digital processing of audio and MIDI will assist in opening up new possibilities for classroom applications.

Participants will have the opportunity to share their findings with the group and offer helpful insights they gained from their path of discovery.

Garageband as a Compositional Tool

1 hour and 30 minutes

Garageband has unique possibilities for quick and easy composition. Understanding Live Tracks and Loops will provide an insight into how these tools can be incorporated into typical assessment tasks.

Participants will have the opportunity to share their findings with the group and offer helpful insights they gained from their path of discovery.

The Mixing Process

1 hour

This session will explore recording parameters such as microphone options, AD converters, EQ, Audio 3D and Stereo, Compression principles, and working with room dynamics.

Participants will have the opportunity to share their findings with the group and offer helpful insights they gained from their path of discovery.

Garageband and Logic integration.

1 hour

This session will investigate how to integrate GarageBand into Logic Pro, and some of the other features of Logic Pro such as SCORE.

Participants will have the opportunity to share their findings with the group and offer helpful insights they gained from their path of discovery.

Mastering and Evaluation

30 minutes

In this session, participants will discover how to export GARAGEBAND and Logic Pro activities into assessable items, create a Mastered version, and discover useful links to Topic Areas.

What To Bring

Ipads, Iphones, and Macbook Pro or iMacs with Logic Pro and Garageband, an A/D converter, headphones and adequate audio speakers.
