General Description
Maths with Google Sheets is one of a series of three Professional Learning (PL) Courses on how to effectively integrate Google Sheets to enhance the teaching, learning and assessing of Secondary School Mathematics courses. This particular series is called ‘Statistics (Univariate and Bivariate Data Analysis. The other two courses are ‘Maths with Google Sheets: Financial Maths’ and ‘Maths with Google Sheets: Time Series Analysis’. The objective is to empower teachers who will in turn enable their students to make connections between the mathematics that they learn in the classroom with those that is applied in the real-world. This approach has been proven to motivate students to value the subject and increase their engagement and inquisitiveness. This objective is achieved by using real world data and scenarios to develop various mathematical concepts.
Audience
This PL is intended for teachers of Years 7-12 Mathematics courses.

Participants will receive step-by-step written instructions (including reference to further resources on the internet) and the relevant real-world data to work at their own pace in their own time. They will follow the instructions and reproduce the results (statistical calculations and graphics given in the instructions). Assistance will be available via email or via any other means deemed appropriate by TTA.
Participants will download 3 documents from the following weblink:
https://sites.google.com/view/technology-in-mathematics/home
Go to the section named ‘MATHS WITH GOOGLE SHEETS: Statistics (Univariate and Bivariate Data Analyses) and download the following three documents:
1. Instructions
2. Report
3. Data
Participants will be instructed in the later sections on how to create a folder in Google Drive and store these 3 documents in that folder.

Maths with Google Sheets: Statistics-Univariate & Bivariate Data - Nazim Khan
The videos were easy to follow and well made. The resrouces we used were easy to access. It was more helpfful when the videos were specifically made for the data we were using and shown in a simple step by step approach. Unfortunately one of the add ons is currently being blocked by Google so I could not complete some components of the training without that add on. Also, this work seemed very advanced and therefore irrelevant to 7-10 and most of the senior years. I could only imagine using 70% of it with very advanced students.
Maths with Google Sheets: Statistics-Univariate & Bivariate Data - Nazim Khan
Excellent. The only drawback would be about the XLMiner add-on that I wasn’t able to install.

Very interesting and relevant
Maths with Google Sheets: Statistics-Univariate & Bivariate Data - Nazim Khan
The first 75% of the course was relevant to the levels of Mathematics I am teaching and I love the step by step instructions. I was able to work alongside the presenter in real time to produce the graphs and analyse the data.
Maths with Google Sheets: Statistics-Univariate & Bivariate Data - Nazim Khan
80% of the content is relevant and falls within the course work of Year 7 to 12. The rest – 20% is appreciated as it enables us as teachers to develop a greater understanding of where the key elements in statistics are applied in a real-world context.

Some parts of the course were beyond the scoe of the syllabus

Excellent!
Maths with Google Sheets: Statistics-Univariate & Bivariate Data - Nazim Khan
This course was very interesting. I already knew how to use a spreadsheet software such as Excel with statistics but not so much Google sheets. Our school has decided to use G-suite therefore, I feel more proficient now that I finished the course.

I am an enthusiastic Mathematics teacher, passionate about integrating technology and real-life data in Mathematics teaching and learning. My specialist fields are Mathematics and Statistics in which I have over 18 years of teaching and 2 years of research experience.
My teaching experience involved over 13 years at various secondary schools and 5 years at various tertiary institutes in Australia and Fiji. Further, for 2 years I have worked at the Australian National University as a Research Assistant.
At secondary school level I have taught Mathematics from Years 7 to 12, and have also been a pastoral care teacher and member of various school committees. At tertiary level, I have taught Mathematics and Statistics (undergraduate level), and Biostatistics (undergraduate and postgraduate levels) via both face-to-face and distance education modes. My other experiences at tertiary level included reviewing and development of courses in Biostatistics, providing statistical advice to students and staff undertaking research, and membership of various staff committees. As a Research Assistant at ANU, I have been involved in analysis of large datasets and preparation of statistical reports.
