For those new to the Habits of Mind, this comprehensive workshop will give you the foundations you need to succeed.

For those already familiar with the Habits of Mind, and wondering how to move beyond the introduction, posters and language of the Habits, this workshop will show you how to sustain the Habits in meaningful ways, and avoid the “we’ve already done the Habits of Mind” syndrome.

This workshop focuses on developing a powerful, practical and sustainable approach to the Habits of Mind in your classroom. A strong focus is given to moving beyond covering the Habits of Mind as a topic, and ensuring teachers are equiped to focus on the development of students Habits of Mind within your normal classroom practice.

The Habits are explored through a wide range of practical classroom examples, while at the same time this exploration is bedded in a pedagogical framework that ensures meaningful and lasting improvement to your classroom practice.

James Anderson is Australia’s leading authority on Habits of Mind and is endorsed by Art Costa and Bena Kallick to offer training in Habits of Mind. He regularly presents internationally and has published extensively on Habits of Mind. He is the founder of the Habits of Mind Teachers' Network.

This workshop focuses on how to ensure your work with the Habits of Mind is sustainable and leads to significant improvements in student learning outcomes. James draws on over 10 years of classroom and leadership experience to support teacher learning.

COVID-19 Event Information

All TTA venues continue to work with advice provided by the NSW Health Department in managing the risks associated with the current COVID-19 situation. While the current risk is low, TTA venues will be taking steps to help provide a safe environment for our courses. There will be increased cleaning and disinfecting of all areas, and venues will be providing ample hand sanitiser pumps. While venues will be taking all the care that they can, we also stress the need for course participants to take responsibility for their own wellbeing and the wellbeing of those around them. If you are not feeling well or showing symptoms of COVID-19, please don’t attend this event. Wash your hands regularly. Avoid shaking hands where possible. Practice cough etiquette, coughing into a tissue or your elbow and washing your hands afterwards. Thank you for your understanding.

Completing this course will contribute 7.5 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Registered PD addressing 1.2.1, 1.5.2, 3.1.2, 3.2.2, 3.3.2, 6.2.2 & 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

TTA (Teacher Training Australia) is endorsed to provide the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Registered Professional Development for teachers accredited at Proficient and Lead Level Teacher.

This course contributes to 6.5 professional development hours.

James Anderson is the director and principal consultant of Mindful by Design. An experienced and successful teacher, James began working with Art Costa’s Habits of Mind in his own classroom in 2000. James is a highly experienced and engaging presenter with experience at all levels of schooling from early learning through to tertiary.
