General Description

The new Extension 2 Mathematics Course will challenge teachers in a variety of ways. The new Proofs topic will require students to be able to demonstrate skills in Mathematical Induction, Inequations, and Proof by Contradiction to name a few. We will comprehensively consider the main ideas.

3D vectors and the equations of vectors will also receive a detailed coverage, including a demonstration of how to use Geogebra to add clarity and insight into both the mathematics and teaching of new this new material.

While Complex Numbers is the topic with least change, particular emphasis will be made on polar and exponential forms and the relationship between them.

Calculus in this course relies heavily on integration techniques and these will be treated in depth.

The Mechanics in Extension 2 will see new ideas introduced. We will look at Simple Harmonic Motion, resisted motion and also at Projectiles in a resisted medium. Teachers will complete the day with anew found confidence to present this challenging material.

This confidence will be boosted by the provision of sample test questions, assessment ideas and comprehensive electronic resources,
