General Description

This course is designed to provide Business Studies teachers with tools to help better prepare students for the HSC examination. It provides practical strategies on how to unpack the syllabus, how to answer HSC examination questions, how to apply relevant business case study examples into written work, how to best structure report and essay writing answers, and activities to enhance syllabus memorisation.

Audience

HSC Business Studies teachers to forward plan how they will teach the course and find new ways to engage their students towards the HSC “finish line”.

Sessions

Unpacking and using the syllabus

1 hour and 30 minutes

During this session, participants will be examining the similarities across the HSC Business Studies topics to better streamline their teaching. They will also be identifying the sections of the syllabus that translate into HSC examination questions, looking specifically at examples from previous years' exam papers. Finally, participants will experience a syllabus memorisation activity that they can re-enact in their classrooms.

Applying actual business case studies to enhance learning

1 hour and 30 minutes

During this session, participants will learn a variety of popular case study examples that they can teach to their students. They will also learn an activity on how to align case study examples to the syllabus to help students develop their content and concept understanding better.

Directing stronger responses to HSC examination questions

2 hours

During this session, participants will evaluate samples of students' responses to HSC examination questions and look at techniques on how to guide to students to improve their writing. They will also learn an activity that they can use in the classroom to get their students to create a model essay writing response.
