Know your brain/body

2 hours

In this module EYI will introduce
● What is mindfulness/meditation, how and what?
● Why mindfulness/meditation?
● Latest studies of the benefits of mindfulness meditation
● Practice mindfulness technique
● Brain Structure
● Fight, flight – stress response
● Why body awareness?
● Feedback loops of the brain and body
● Practices and processes to support self regulation
● Self awareness practices
● Reflection of behaviours, actions & thoughts
This development supports teachers understanding of their inner functioning, their mind, their body & emotions. Understanding how something works gives insight into how to operate it. This insight also allows for understanding within student behaviours, while developing tools to share within the classroom experience for both self and student. Through powerpoint presentation, video, practical activations, reflection and group sharing, teachers will engage, interact, play while exploring best practices of mindfulness and why it is effective in supporting wellbeing solutions to handle stress, resilience and communication for effective teaching.

Yoga

1 hour

In this session teachers will partake in a Yoga session- This practical exercise develops teachers awareness of the benefits of movement, breath and tension release through the body. Teachers will be partaking with a practice of a yoga and learning tools of breath, meditation, movement and education to support wellbeing. Practical experience of a movement process such as yoga, gives teachers a hands on experiential learning of the practice and its benefits. Developing a practice that supports stress relief gives teachers a deeper awareness as to the power of creating a calm relaxed state. This practice gives teachers the awareness to embody habits that support wellbeing. Teachers practical experience, supports the cognition of presence and mindful teaching in the classroom.

● Putting it together – How to make it happen in Life
● Consider the practical learnings of today and how to apply it,
personally and in the classroom
● How to manage life situations, emotional moments to
challenging situations and build strategies for resilience
● Communication – Connection – Empathy
● Mindful conversation with colleagues
Teachers will have an absolute understanding on what they can do moving forward to support a more coherent life experience for home and school. Teachers will be put into groups, write, reflect and discuss the learnings of the day with their peers. They will build strategy, brainstorm and develop their strategy for integration of key learning areas of their workshop and how they can build steps to support wellbeing within their personal life and class life.
