General Description

This course will develop participant’s ability to identify, select and annotate quality documentary evidence. An approach to supporting referees to write clear and concise reports that address the standard descriptors will also be unpacked.

Sessions

Supporting referees

1 hour and 30 minutes

1. Unpacking of the BOSTES Accreditation at Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher Information for Referees document.
2. Developing a whole school approach to supporting referees.
3. Using a scaffolded approach to write referee comments.
4. Reviewing and improving some examples of referee comments.

Identifying appropriate evidence and writing quality annotations

2 hours

1. Sharing of examples of appropriate evidence.
2. Developing a whole school approach to support the collection of documentary evidence.
3, Using a scaffolded approach to writing annotations.
4. Reviewing and improving some examples of annotations.

Planning for accreditation

1 hour and 30 minutes

1. Applying backward mapping process to plan an accreditation submission.

  • A copy of the BOSTES Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
  • A copy of either the Evidence Guide for Highly Accomplished Teacher OR Lead Teacher
  • A copy of the BOSTES Information for Referees Guide
  • Examples of documentary evidence that demonstrate the impact they have had on teacher knowledge, practice and/or engagement
  • Any referee reports they may have (optional)

Nadene Kennedy

Creator

Nadene is a passionate educator who has experience as a classroom teacher, Head Teacher, Highly Accomplished Teacher and Deputy Principal. She has worked as a curriculum writer and adviser for both the NSW Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES) and Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). Nadene is accredited with BOSTES at Professional Leadership and received a Professional Teachers’ Council Outstanding Professional Service Award for her involvement with ACHPER NSW. She completed her Bachelor of Secondary Education (Human Movement & Health) at The University of Sydney and also has a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training with TAFE NSW.
