General Description

How to set up a safe Facebook Group for your senior classes. Look at the multitude of uses and benefits of using Facebook including sharing resources such as files, links and video material, collaboration, class discussion and quick communication. Tips and tricks for making it a thriving learning space. Also covering what every teacher fears about taking the leap to using social media for learning – ensuring security and safety.

Available Delivery Formats

Format Description

Most TTA online courses are available with an Online Subscription. For a little more than the price of one course, you can gain up to 20 PD hours per year. Learn more HERE.

A short online course is delivered over 1-3 weeks in duration and is worth 2-3 PD hrs depending on the course content and its objectives. Participants will not need to take time off, the course date is the START date only, end dates will be advertised with course hours.

Sessions

The Benefits

1 hour

An in depth look, referring to case studies, at the many ways Facebook can be utilised to increase student engagement and foster peer and student/teacher relationships. In a forum participants will brainstorm and develop ideas to implement Facebook and student learning activities relevant to their subject area.

The Administration

1 hour

Participants will be guided through a step-by-step process for creating a Facebook Group, adjusting privacy settings and adding members. The role of a Facebook Group Administrator will be outlined along with practical examples of responding to any issues that may arise. Setting clear guidelines for students and creating a safe (and fun!) online learning environment will be covered. A forum discussion will cover any questions, concerns and suggestions for gaining school approval to operate a Facebook Group.
