I thoroughly enjoyed this course and was able to learn many things about English grammar to help improve my teaching practice. The handbook that we received with this course provides excellent information and examples that I will continue to use for many years to come! Very informative and provided excellent activities to incorporate into my own classroom.

I found the course textbook really useful and a great resource that I will be able to use in years to come. I didn’t have as much time during the course to try out all the various strategies, but since they are outlined in the textbook I can come back to them when the opportunity presents itself. The activities were very practical.

I learnt a lot from Rod and he challenged my thinking on vocabulary and grammar instruction. Being a school for the deaf, who is interested in Evidence Based Practice we are always looking for ways to improve and critique our teaching.

A wealth of excellent resources to use for teaching grammar. The teacher I was team-teaching with loved the activities and wants to use them in her classes too.

The resources and lesson ideas gained from this course have been extremely useful in working with my junior classes to help raise their writing ability. The textbook and the course have enabled me to have a greater understanding of clear and defined breakdowns of what cohesion means and how to explore that with the students.

Overall good layout and format with opportunities for collegiate discussion of practical strategies for teaching grammar. Effective, easy-to-use and understand resources (the majority of which I intend to implement next year).

This was an exceptionally valuable course and followed on perfectly from the preceding course about grammar and writing. Some useful ideas and resources and a great opportunity to share good practice with others online.

Very informative. Taught me how to teach what I knew rather then just tell students about it

The course was informative, relevant and practical. I found the readings were engaging and educational. My own personal knowledge of grammar and vocabulary was lifted as well as my confidence to teach it in the classroom. The teaching strategies provided worked well in class and I found that they were flexibly enough to cater to different age groups. Students responded well to the activities and I can see myself using them again in the future. I now have detailed resources to add to my collection.

The course was relevant to my teaching area and appropriate in terms of content and length, the course materials were useful, practical and generally easily accessed.

This course was valuable as it allowed teachers, some of whom had not studied grammar skills or metalanguage to engage with appropriate activities and skills to teach it. I found the activities valuable but did realise that many were aimed at primary students, and perhaps lacked the academic rigour for the more mature or capable students.

This course wasn’t exactly what I thought it would be in regards to grammar, but it was informative, nonetheless.

Course was very effective. The work provided was practical and included activities that allowed students to actively engage with grammar activities. As well as this, we were provided with clear instructions and justification for the activities. I found the practicality of the course to outweigh others I have completed through TTA. The book was an excellent resource and allows for longevity of the learning. Delivery allowed for flexibility but didn’t allow enough time to work through material.

I found this course very helpful and practical. It is always good to complete a course where you can walk into your classroom the next day and actually implement what you have learned in a very tangible way. I intend on returning to Rod Campbell’s book too, as I endeavour to continue to apply myself to becoming a better teacher of grammar.
The course was good. There was a lot of reading and I would have preferred perhaps some videos of Rod talking through this stuff.

Thorough coverage. Had step by step explanation and building concepts. May need more time to let participants digest course materials.
