The content while fascinating, some of the concepts and examples were more primary school based. While still interesting, it may not be relevant in a secondary context

This was a fantastic course with so many resources to explore! The resources for the classroom are great: children like a bit of competition and they responded well to the various challenges. I know how important numeracy skills are and I liked the fact that the activity sheets were designed to diagnose the gaps in pupils' knowledge. I like the fact that this was an online course; easy to access at home in my own time. The content of the course was rich and well thought throughout. An excellent use of my time! Thank you.

I found that this course was a great balance between theory and practical. Also time line was perfect to enable implementation of concepts so valuable feedback could be given. I would definitely enrol in similar type of course.

This was a fabulous course. The course was well organised and practical and dealt with some of the topics in the Number strand of the curriculum that students find most difficult. As a facilitator, Rod was outstanding. He generously shared some great resources with us and provided the opportunity for people doing the course to share resources with each other. Rod provided regular feedback to forum posts and assignments. He was very prompt in providing support with the technology required to get into the course using Moodle. My only criticism would be that I came to the course expecting resources that I could use with mobile technology and was disappointed that the resources in this course are only available on a PC. I know that Rod is working on developing the technology that will allow these resources and more to be available using mobile technology. On a personal level, this was my first online course and I found juggling the course with my current workload quite challenging.

This was a fantastic course which gave great practical ideas for supporting struggling students. As a secondary teacher I got great practical ways to help them to improve their basic mathematical skill that we have little time to address with the constraints of the curriculum. I will definitely be using this technology in the classroom.

I really enjoyed the course. I am currently working part time as a support teacher helping year 7 and 8 students with remedial numeracy. The course helped get a feel for how the students learn maths in Primary school, and so, when I assisted the students I could use the same language and techniques they were familiar with from Primary school. This helped a lot. Rod also has developed some great resources which I have been using successfully with my kids. These help me identify specific areas of student numeracy weakness, and target specific remedial instruction and practice. A great help!

This course not only presented the issues relevant to numeracy needs in a comprehensive high school setting but also the tools necessary for addressing those needs immediatly in the classroom. As a result any participant would be able to put remediation practices into effect without having to spend time preparing resources beforehand. This is probably the most valuable numeracy course I have ever attended. I would recommend it to every high school Mathematics teacher without hesitation.

I used this course content with my Year 8 class and found it very useful for highlighting the deficiencies in their numerical skills, in particular their arithmetic skills and their understanding of place value. It was reassuring to read via the forums that the problems are fairly ubiquitous throughout Australia. Perhaps the term “reassuring” should be rephrased as it implies that poor numerical skills across Australia is a good thing. I guess I really mean that I am not alone with the type of problems I am encountering.
The course flowed logically by starting with diagnostic testing of Stage 2 skills, then we were given software and suggestions for its use to help students improve in the areas of weakness highlighted in the diagnostic test.
The suggested time commitment of 1.5 – 2 hours per week was achievable and I did not find the course a burden, despite me undertaking it at the busy end of the year marking and reporting season. Rod was most helpful and made you feel as though he was there to walk you through the course offering as much assistance as you felt you needed. He is obviously busy with his own teaching but was always quick to respond to questions I had. He is a very capable course presenter.
